Kickstarter Campaign

Strange that this topic is not even discussed here?    And that on AQ forum they are even talking about creating an LBNA forum page for discussion of LBNA issues?     I guess this talk list is pretty much considered dead to the world.

Not dead. Just very quiet.
I check this list daily. Although I don't contribute much I still consider it the foremost talk list.

Which is good, because then when we take over the world, they'll never see it coming.

I read all the posts. I'm not much of a poster though.

Getting these posts via email, I've been reading them more than the AQ boards these days!  Though I will make a point of going on tomorrow to celebrate my cake day ;-)  I gave a little intro to letterboxing spiel at a middle school wellness day this morning.  We checked out some clues and did see the request for pledges pop up.

not dead at all. some of us are very attached to this group and read
everything from the past and the present. in fact i would suspect that more
letterboxers than you realize read this list and not aq at all.

When I first saw the Kickstarter campaign link, I did ask Choi if it was legit, since I HADN'T seen anything on this board, nor on the actual LBNA (leterboxing.org) web site. I guess the LBNA webmasters must think no one looks at this board or the actual site. I thought it was odd nothing was posted in those two places, but was instead posted on AQ!

Frankly, sometimes I don't feel like it's letterboxing anymore, sometimes it seems like it should just be called AQing.  I didn't pay attention over time about the fact that, in just a few short years in this country, everything other than AQ seems to be quietly slipping away.........

Altho I don't use LBNA as much as AQ  LB has it's place.  When I have to limit my time boxing in just

one town I use LB as it gives more specific search locations.

I was surprised it wasn't mentioned here, too, but I guess most letterboxers talk on AQ so webmasters figured it would be seen by more people there.  I never post there but when I heard there was talk of Ryan taking over LBNA I had to give my 2¢.  Glad to see the campaign is successful and LBNA can remain a nonprofit letterboxing website thanks to the efforts of Choi and others.  Also glad this group is not dead, or at least full of talkative ghosts.

Actually I suspect many of the donations were made based on local Yahoo message boards and Facebook LB groups. As far as I can tell, the Texas Yahoo board and the Great Lakes Yahoo board are the only two that are still active and the major source of communication in those regions.

I think there would be even more donations if a message was put on the home page of letterboxing.org

Truth be told, I saw it on Facebook. The letterboxing group on that isn't very active but occasionally posts.

Yeah, I don't why it wasn't put right on the home page of LbNA.  It doesn't pop up for me until I click on the actual clues to a box.

This may seem a strange question, but do the techs at LbNA actually want LbNA to succeed?  It's been around quite awhile now & maybe they're tired..........

I agree and have been worried that LBNA would eventually die and go away, along with all my clues.  I understand that many new letterboxers prefer AQ, but to not even use or know about LBNA just seems wrong.  When AQ was first created with its own database of clues, I was afraid it would cause a schism in the letterbox community, but I never dreamed it would take over.  I am so glad Choi and other webmasters are continuing to keep LBNA functional for us traditionalists.

In the beginning, LbNA & AQ weren't the only games in town either.  From about 2003 to 2007, our family used Silent Doug's website plus WOL (World of Letterboxing) to put our clues.  They had links to our boxes that went back to our own blog.  And there was the letterboxing webring where folks put their clues on their own websites.  Personally, my cousins & I really liked the variety back then.  Maybe a few folks' websites still exist, but I don't know how many people even know about them anymore.

I always list my boxes in both locations and when I find a box on AQ that is not on LB.org I send a message to the planter suggesting that they use LB.org as well.

I love the simple set up of LB.org.  No fuss, no other stuff, just clues.

Apparently it is dead.  I got a "sorry, can't find" message when I clicked on the link, or typed it out.  I also tried other links in active Lb sites: none of them worked, no matter how it was referenced.  Perhaps Silent Doug will respond directly?
